A surprising turn out for a Saturday had 14 racers in Men's Open. Just before the race I went to put my breath right strip on but made a crucial error. I didn't take a shower the morning of the race and forgot to wipe my nose off before putting it on. It didn't stick so that was a no go and I only had one in my pocket so I was pretty much effed on that.
Skipping a shower for me is the equivalent of the Exxon Valdez oil tanker crashing into my face. Oily - Gross.
So this was the first race of the year with out the breath right. I could tell but it didn't bother me to much not having it.
Race gets going and like every race it stayed together the first lap. 2nd lap it spread out a bit as the lap was much longer this week. I soon found my self trying to latch onto Rock Wamsley's wheel. He slowly opened up about 8 - 10 second gap. About the half way point there was a 3 man man train of the wheel fast crew who were reeling my in. I would say about 5 laps to go I had about a 10 - 15 second gap on them. At 2 to go they had cut that in half.
I nailed it at 2 to go. I thought if I could open that gap back up to 15 seconds they would give up as the race was almost over. I don't know that they gave up but I think I made the right move. On the bell lap I had plenty of breathing room and was able to safely ride the last lap with no one breathing down my neck. Came across the line in 6th.
I also found the limit of my Typhoon tires. I slid out a couple times having to put a foot down. Its so damn dry right now. Lots of people went down in the race.
I wore my FUCANCER kit at the race. It was October 1st, the month my mother passed last year, and this was the venue for the only CX race she came to see me at. I cant believe its almost been a year already.

Excellent work jerk! If you ever have trouble with Rock, just point out how some part of his bike/kit doesn't match (he's a graphic designer) and his mind will melt in front of you. I'm sure you're moms would would be proud to see you there wearing the colors giving the bird to cancer.
Jerk!!!
Just to be clear the last sentence of my post was meant with the utmost sincerity unlike most of what I post online.
Thank Gino. Thats how I took it. You still cant barrow my tubulars for 33% of the burning. ;)
